Problem Solver – by Ronnell Hodges

Professional Development, Friday, July 31, 2015

Week 4 of Professional Development focused on college readiness, the first portion of class was a panel discussing their college experience and how they made decisions to purse their current careers. After the panel we were given prompts from the common-college application, which is used by lots of schools for admission.

Prompt: Describe a problem you’ve solved or a problem you’d like to solve. It can be an intellectual challenge, a research query, an ethical dilemma-anything that is of personal importance; no matter the scale. Explain its significance to you and what steps you took or could be taken to identify a solution.

The main problem I am currently trying to solve is my college major, I have so many ideas of what I will do with my life but actually settling on a decision and making a game plan is proving challenging. I love music but I also love fashion and expressing myself through my clothes. I consider both an art form, and something I care deeply about, with that being said when it comes to making an actual decision it always gets complicated. The steps I’m currently taking are small but important, I’m focusing my attention on obtaining internships in both music and fashion, and from there deciding which outlet I find more fulfilling. While this may not be an immediate solution it’s a start to finding what I want to pursue during college and beyond.
