Hey guys! The moment many of you guys have been waiting for has finally come…. ICA’s two new exhibitions open tonight, Wednesday, February 12th!!! I hope you guys are excited because I am! This is a very special year for ICA. The museum is celebrating its 50th anniversary! Expect some very big things to happen!
ICA opens its doors to the public this evening at 6:30pm and kicks off a special party with special guest DJs from Okayplayer at 8pm! You have to start a special opening in a pretty special way right? Of course! Definitely try to be there so you can enjoy some great art and have fun too.
The two exhibitions opening are Ruffneck Constructivists and ICA@50: Pleasing Artists and Publics Since 1963. Those of you who checked out my blog post in December will remember I mentioned these exhibits a little bit then. Ruffneck Constructivists is a group exhibition curated by the one and only Kara Walker! If you do not know her already, you should definitely check out her work! Eleven international artists have been brought together for this group exhibition, which defines contemporary urban architecture and change.
The other exhibit opening is a very special one. ICA@50: Pleasing Artists and Publics Since 1963 marks the 50TH ANNIVERSARY of ICA. Wow, isn’t that a lot of years for ICA to be one of the leading contemporary art museums in the WORLD! You bet it is! The overall structure of ICA@50 will follow a series of micro-exhibitions and events that will occupy the entire second floor of the museum. With the curatorial team organizing nearly 50 presentations of sculptures, films, sounds, paintings, and videos, this celebration will surely be a BIG one!
Also, here’s another cool aspect, visit the ICA@50 exhibit five times and you will receive a free ICA membership!
So, try to make the event tonight at 6:30pm and join the party until 10:00pm! I know you’ll have a fantastic time. Remember, that there will be new things to see as the ICA@50 exhibit through August 17th, so be sure to find out the dates for all of the upcoming events.
Be safe everyone and I hope to see you there!
