Each month, Asian Arts Initiative presents their hit Family Style Open Mic, where they feature new artists, musicians and more, plus let YOU sign up for 5-minute performance spots! The next mic is this Friday, March 21st from 7-9pm at Asian Arts Initiative (1219 Vine Street).
This month’s featured guest artist is Sahra Nguyen, a multidisciplinary artist and published writer. Her writing explores “themes of identity, race in America, the Vietnamese American experience and the power of human potential.” Rob Buscher, the organizer of the Philadelphia Asian American Film Festival, will also play live music during the opening reception, and there will be a special presentation by visiting artist Rick Shiomi, created in collaboration with a local youth group of young activist leaders.
Admission is $5-$10 on a sliding scale. For more information (and to sign up to perform!) visit http://asianartsinitiative.org/event/family-style-open-mic-8
