We know a lot of STAMP teens are involved in poetry jams and open mics, so we wanted to share this awesome opportunity: The City of Philadelphia’s Office of Arts, Culture and the Creative Economy (OACCE) has opened its search for Philly’s 2014 Youth Poet Laureate!

Any Philly teen who lives in Philadelphia can apply. If you’re selected, you’ll promote the art of poetry around the city from June 2014-May 2015. You’ll also get guidance on developing your work and be mentored by Frank Sherlock, Philadelphia’s current Poet Laureate, and be eligible for a $1,000 stipend to further your writing education.

Applications are due April 11th. You’ll have to submit three poems you’ve written (or a video, if you primarily do spoken word), and answer a few essay questions. You’ll also need a nomination from a school, community organization, or adult who is familiar with your work.
